MORRISVILLE – Volaris will begin nonstop service from Raleigh-Durham International Airport to Guadalajara, Mexico, on Oct. 16, giving RDU its 19th airline and a record 91 nonstop destinations.

The flights will operate on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays using a 238-seat Airbus A321neo, according to the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority.

Guadalajara will become RDU’s third destination in Mexico, joining Cancun and Mexico City. Axios reported that the route will be the airport’s first nonstop connection to Guadalajara.

Michael Landguth, president and CEO of the Airport Authority, said the service will connect two economically active regions and create opportunities for business, collaboration and growth while making family and leisure travel easier.

Volaris Executive Vice President Holger Blankenstein said Guadalajara is the airline’s largest hub and that the new route will expand connectivity between Mexico and the United States.
