CHARLOTTE – W Hotels will anchor the planned conversion of 400 South Tryon into a mixed-use destination with a 200-key hotel and 399 apartments, according to developer Spandrel Development Partners.
The W Charlotte is planned for floors one through nine of the former office tower. The hotel would include 173 guest rooms and 27 suites, including a penthouse, plus 12,000 square feet of meeting space, a ground-floor restaurant and coffee bar, and a rooftop food-and-beverage venue on the 34th floor.
Spandrel is developing the project with 7G Group. Rockwell Group is designing the hotel, with LS3P serving as architect of record. The residential portion would include studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom units, along with an indoor pool, spa, fitness center, theater room and golf simulator.
The developer expects the work to take 30 to 32 months, and the hotel is expected to open by the end of 2029, Axios reported.
