STALLINGS – Atrium Health has broken ground on a $116 million patient-tower expansion at Atrium Health Union West that will add more than 67,000 square feet and capacity for 88 patient rooms.
The project will expand the emergency department with 11 bays and add an endoscopy room, a procedure room, imaging capacity and related support infrastructure. Atrium Health is partnering with DPR Construction and expects the expansion to open in fall 2028.
Atrium Health said Union West has served more than 200,000 patients since opening in February 2022 and that patient visits have increased 127%.
State certificate-of-need findings approved the Union West application as modified, authorizing no more than 58 additional acute-care beds. Together with 46 beds approved under an earlier project, Union West may have no more than 184 acute-care beds after both projects are completed.
The hospital campus is at the intersection of Independence Boulevard and Stallings Road in Stallings, according to Atrium Health’s original campus announcement.
