BRUNSWICK COUNTY – Brunswick County received $6.275 million to clear land, build rail bed and buy wetland-mitigation credits at the 1,100-acre Mid-Atlantic Industrial Rail Park.

The Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina announced the award through its Megasite Readiness Program. The money is intended to make the property more site-ready for future business investment.

EDPNC said the work will include site clearing, rail-bed construction and wetland-mitigation credits. The agency described the property as a 1,100-acre industrial megasite 12 miles from an international airport and 18 miles from the Port of Wilmington.

WilmingtonBiz reported that the funding is not tied to a specific project. The outlet also noted that India-based Epsilon Advanced Materials announced plans in 2023 for a $650 million facility at the park that was expected to create 500 jobs.

Brunswick County was one of two recipients in the current round. Mitchell County received more than $81,000 for due-diligence work at the roughly 90-acre Mitchell Business Park Selectsite.

The award advances preparation of a rail-served industrial property near the Wilmington port, but the announcement does not identify a new tenant, construction schedule, additional private investment or jobs tied specifically to the $6.275 million.
