WILSON – ABEC has opened a 50,000-square-foot manufacturing facility that will make equipment and consumables for biologics, vaccines and other advanced medicines.

The Pennsylvania-based company announced the opening Thursday. An official ribbon-cutting ceremony and facility celebration are scheduled for Sept. 24 at 9 a.m., with tours and remarks from company and community leaders.

ABEC said the Wilson plant expands its production capacity and brings the company closer to biopharmaceutical customers in the southeastern United States. The site will make bioprocess equipment and consumable products used in developing and producing biologics, vaccines and other advanced medicines.

ABEC’s current global-footprint page lists the Wilson operation at 4,645 square meters, or about 50,000 square feet. It is one of five manufacturing facilities across the United States and Ireland. The company reports more than 367,500 square feet of manufacturing space across the network.

ABC11 reported when the project was announced four years ago that ABEC planned to create 251 jobs in Wilson County. Thursday’s opening announcement said the facility is creating manufacturing and technical employment opportunities. It did not provide a current headcount, capital-investment total or hiring timetable.

ABEC’s other manufacturing sites are in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; Springfield, Missouri; Fermoy, Ireland; and Kells, Ireland.
