CHARLOTTE — Bank of America will hire 1,000 additional apprentices nationwide over two years and commit $150 million over five years to workforce-development organizations.
The Charlotte-headquartered bank said the new apprentices will work in Consumer Banking, Technology, Operations and other client-facing areas. The commitment is in addition to more than 800 apprentices the company says it already hires each year.
Reuters independently reported the two-year hiring target and five-year investment on Sept. 24. Reuters said the additional hiring is aimed at workers without a four-year college degree.
The bank said the $150 million will support workforce-development organizations that help people build job-ready skills and connect with employment. The planned recipients include local organizations, universities, community colleges and nonprofit groups across the United States.
The commitment builds on nearly $40 million that Bank of America says it invested in workforce development in 2025 through partnerships with more than 100 universities and community colleges and more than 600 nonprofit organizations.
Bank of America said roughly 40% of its current hires do not hold a bachelor’s degree. The apprenticeship expansion is part of a broader skills-based hiring strategy that also includes commitments to hire 10,000 people from military backgrounds and 8,000 people from community colleges.
The announcement creates a larger company-wide hiring pipeline and a multiyear capital commitment by the Charlotte-headquartered bank. It does not disclose how many of the 1,000 apprentices will work in North Carolina or how much of the $150 million will go to organizations in the state.
