CHARLOTTE – Capital Group has opened its East Coast operations hub at One Independence Center, beginning a Charlotte buildout tied to 600 pledged jobs, at least $60 million in capital investment and an anticipated annual payroll topping $116 million.

Gov. Josh Stein joined company and local leaders for the hub’s opening on Sept. 29. The Governor’s Office said the project is expected to contribute more than $5 billion to North Carolina’s economy over the next 12 years.

The Charlotte Business Journal reported that Capital Group has leased eight floors in the uptown tower. About 95 associates accepted relocation from Virginia, and the company had roughly 70 Charlotte openings posted as the hub began operating. Those current figures are separate from the longer-term commitment to create 600 jobs.

When the project was announced in March, the City of Charlotte said Capital Group planned at least $60 million in capital investment. The company expects the hub to include roles in software development, data and artificial intelligence, data science, investment operations, marketing and global business services.

The city described Capital Group as a privately held Los Angeles-based investment management company with more than $3.4 trillion in assets under management. The Charlotte site is the company’s East Coast operations hub.

The opening establishes Capital Group’s operating presence in Charlotte, while the pledged employment and payroll impact will build over time as hiring and relocations continue.
