STATESVILLE – North Carolina environmental regulators will hold a Sept. 28 public hearing on a water-quality certification sought for a Compass Datacenters project planned for a 331-acre site in Iredell County.
The application calls for five single-story data-center buildings of about 270,000 square feet each and an on-site substation. Compass acquired the former Stamey Farm property in January, according to the permit application.
The company is seeking authorization for permanent impacts to 438 linear feet of streams, 0.13 acres of wetlands and 7.36 acres of open waters. The application says stream and wetland impacts would be offset through mitigation credits.
The hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sept. 28 at Mitchell Community College’s Continuing Education Campus in Statesville. Written comments are due to the Division of Water Resources by 5 p.m. Oct. 28.
DEQ says its water-quality review is separate from local decisions on zoning and siting.
