DURHAM — Durham-headquartered IONNA has expanded its electric-vehicle fast-charging network to 177 operating locations across 30 states, including more than a dozen in North Carolina.
The company expects to surpass 200 operating locations by the end of 2026, CEO Seth Cutler told WRAL in a report published Sept. 16 and updated Sept. 18. IONNA had more than 1,400 charging bays operating and another 700 under construction, according to the report. Locations and charging bays are different measures because one station can contain multiple bays.
IONNA is a joint venture backed by BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis and Toyota. The companies formed the network to build high-powered charging infrastructure open to multiple vehicle brands.
In its March 17 network update, IONNA said it had more than 100 live locations and nearly 1,000 live charging bays. It also reported more than 4,700 bays under contract and nearly 1,500 in construction or beyond at that time.
IONNA is targeting at least 30,000 charging bays across North America by 2030. The company’s official station directory identifies current open and opening-soon locations, including its Apex Rechargery and other sites around North Carolina.
The reported 177-location count reflects operating sites, not projects still under construction. The expansion gives the Durham company a national operating footprint while adding charging infrastructure within North Carolina.
