RALEIGH – McAdams has acquired Sports Design Group, adding a specialized Texas athletic-facility practice to the Raleigh-headquartered planning, design and engineering firm.
Sports Design Group is based in McKinney, Texas, and was founded in 2006 by Richard McDonald. McAdams said McDonald will join the company as senior advisor for sports.
The acquired practice brings experience with approximately 250 synthetic-turf fields and 125 natural-grass fields across K-12, collegiate, municipal and professional sports projects. Its portfolio includes work associated with the Dallas Cowboys Training Facility, Frisco ISD Stadium, Notre Dame Stadium and the Minnesota Twins’ stadium.
Dallas Business Journal independently reported that McAdams is buying the McKinney firm and described the buyer as a national company based in Raleigh. The report said Sports Design Group has worked on McKinney ISD’s football stadium and the Dallas Cowboys training facility in Frisco.
McAdams said the transaction initially strengthens its athletic-facility capabilities and client relationships in Texas. The company plans to integrate the acquired practice’s turf, track, grading, drainage and construction-oversight expertise with its existing civil engineering, landscape architecture, land planning, surveying, water-resources and transportation services.
For the Raleigh-headquartered firm, the acquisition adds a specialized service line and deepens its Texas market position. McAdams did not disclose financial terms, the number of Sports Design Group employees included in the transaction or any North Carolina staffing changes.
