APEX – Australian defense technology company Silentium has opened its North American headquarters in Apex, where it expects to grow from 10 employees to 50 by next year as it expands work with U.S. customers.
Silentium develops passive radar systems that detect and track objects across land, sea, air and space without transmitting their own signal. The company says the technology can operate independently or integrate with existing systems, giving users broader situational awareness while making the radar harder to detect or disrupt.
The company opened the Wake County office Aug. 11. Executives said the Triangle’s technical workforce, research institutions and proximity to military customers helped draw the operation to Apex.
Silentium has secured multiple U.S. contracts over the past two years to supply passive radar systems and data for counter-drone, air and missile defense, and space-awareness missions. Global CEO James Palmer said the permanent Apex presence gives the company a base for closer work with U.S. customers, partners and allies.
The company also announced an annual scholarship program offering $1,500 each to two graduating Wake County high school seniors pursuing four-year degrees in science, technology, engineering or mathematics.
