MORRISVILLE – Volaris has launched nonstop service between Raleigh-Durham International Airport and Guadalajara, creating RDU’s third route to Mexico and a direct Triangle connection to the airline’s largest hub.
The route operates Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays with a 238-seat Airbus A321neo, according to the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority. Guadalajara joins Cancun and Mexico City among RDU’s nonstop destinations in Mexico.
Guadalajara is Volaris’ largest hub, giving Triangle travelers access to the airline’s network of 70 destinations and more than 115 daily flights. That network expands one-stop options beyond Guadalajara while the new route removes a connection for travelers moving directly between the Triangle and western Mexico.
Airport officials framed the launch as a business and investment connection between the Research Triangle and Guadalajara, while also emphasizing tourism and family travel. The service is operating now, rather than remaining a proposed or future route.
Enlace Latino NC independently reported from the Oct. 16 inaugural ceremony that the first flight operated Friday and that airport, airline and Mexican consular officials highlighted family, trade, tourism and educational ties.
The launch adds a new airline to RDU and broadens the airport’s international network. Neither cited source announced a North Carolina job count, airport capital project or financial incentive tied to the route.
