RALEIGH — The Carolina Hurricanes reached a multi-year agreement to put the team-owned Hurricanes Hockey Network on Spectrum, restoring broad cable distribution before the network’s first regular-season telecast.
The Sept. 22 announcement, attributed to Hurricanes vice president of communications Mike Sundheim, said the network will be available to Spectrum customers throughout the team’s regional television territory before its Oct. 2 game. Channel locations have not been announced.
Spectrum will carry Hurricanes Hockey Network through the same television plans that carried the team’s previous rightsholder, FanDuel Sports Network, according to the announcement. The territory covers all of North Carolina and South Carolina, most of Georgia and parts of Alabama.
The agreement gives the Hurricanes’ new media operation distribution through what Sundheim described as the region’s largest cable provider. That materially expands the potential household reach of a network that Hurricanes Holdings owns and operates, including its production, distribution, advertising sales and marketing.
Triangle Business Journal independently reported the multi-year Spectrum deal on Sept. 23 after reporting earlier in the day that the club was still pursuing cable partners.
Spectrum is one of several distribution paths for the 2026-27 season. The team previously announced a direct-to-consumer subscription through Prime Video for viewers inside the regional territory. The Spectrum announcement said additional distribution partners are still expected before the regular season begins.
Hurricanes Hockey Network will carry live games along with pregame and postgame programming. Viewers outside the regional territory can continue to use NHL Power Play on the ESPN App or NHL Center Ice, according to the announcement.
No financial terms, subscriber projections or channel assignments were disclosed. The agreement’s business significance is distribution: the Hurricanes have secured regional cable reach for a newly internalized media operation rather than relying only on the direct-to-consumer streaming option.
