CANDOR – Aberdeen Carolina and Western Railway has opened the first phase of a 30-acre transload and distribution operation in Montgomery County that can handle more than 100 rail cars.

The Candor Logistics Park at 158 McAuley Farm Road includes certified scales, water, fencing, lighting, security cameras and automated gate access. The railroad said the site can handle fuels, food-grade products, plastic resins and dry bulk commodities including cement and lime.

ACWR estimates the operation could shift more than 10,000 long-haul truck trips off roads each year. The company did not disclose current customer commitments, construction cost or employment at the logistics park.

Two adjacent properties of 11 to 20 acres are available for industrial development. ACWR said the graded sites can accommodate building pads ranging from 100,000 to 300,000 square feet. The railroad described $50 million of investment and 50 to 100 jobs as development targets, not committed projects.

ACWR and Montgomery County Economic Development developed the park with grant support from the North Carolina Southeast Partnership, North Carolina Railroad and North Carolina Department of Transportation programs.

The park is less than a mile from Interstate 74. ACWR connects with Norfolk Southern in Charlotte and CSX Transportation in Aberdeen, providing access to the national rail network.
