ROLESVILLE – Rolesville approved WakeMed’s rezoning and annexation requests for a planned emergency healthplex on 31.38 acres, after the mayor broke a 2-2 Board of Commissioners tie on Oct. 8.
The vote advances WakeMed’s plan for 4801 Burlington Mills Road, on the north side of Burlington Mills Road near Walls Cove Lane and west of the Barrington subdivision. The town’s project record says commissioners Alston and Long voted yes, commissioners Paul and Bernat voted no, and Commissioner Sneed was absent. The mayor cast the deciding vote.
Town planning records describe an emergency-center proposal on land owned by WakeMed Property Services. Traffic studies evaluated a 32,414-square-foot hospital use and a 40,000-square-foot medical-office use. WakeMed’s Oct. 8 applicant presentation describes a 24-hour emergency department with 12 treatment rooms, imaging and laboratory services.
The approvals are a land-use milestone, not a construction start. The current town record does not establish a final construction schedule, opening date, staffing level or total project investment tied to the Oct. 8 vote.
Triangle Business Journal reported Oct. 9 that WakeMed also secured approval in Fuquay-Varina, advancing health-care investments in two fast-growing Wake County towns. The Rolesville action is distinct from WakeMed’s separate ownership and expansion transactions previously covered by NC Business Desk.
