ORRUM – The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a $6.7 million contract to build a Creek Road overpass across U.S. 74 in Robeson County.

BMCO Construction Inc. of Lumberton will construct the bridge. The project will replace the current reduced-conflict intersection, which directs Creek Road drivers to turn right onto U.S. 74.

NCDOT said the overpass will improve safety and mobility and support the department’s long-term goal of converting U.S. 74 in southeastern North Carolina to Interstate 74 standards.

The interstate conversion requires at-grade intersections to be replaced with grade-separated interchanges using bridges, ramps or loops. NCDOT has already converted nearby intersections at Broadridge Road and N.C. 72/N.C. 130.

Construction is expected to begin in fall 2026 and last about two years. Access between Creek Road and U.S. 74 will be closed during the work.

Drivers on Creek Road will be directed to use the nearby interchanges at Broadridge Road or N.C. 72/N.C. 130 to enter or cross U.S. 74.
